Dear Delegates, Clergy, and Observers,
Welcome – or welcome back – to Mystic! The thirty-third Annual Synod of the Diocese of the Northeast, and Clericus, will be held from Wednesday, October 30, through Saturday, November 2, in Mystic, Connecticut.
Venue: All Synod-related events, with the exception of evening meals on Wednesday (Clericus) and Friday (Synod Banquet Dinner), will be held at the Old Mystic United Methodist Church, 44 Main Street (CT Route 27) in the community of Old Mystic, Connecticut. Do note that this is not the same location as Olde Mistick Village, which had been utilized for some Synod activities held in previous years. A tentative schedule of Synod and related activities is also attached.
Registration: A Synod Registration Form is attached to this posting. Please be sure to fill it out completely, indicating which meals you plan to partake of (so we can order accordingly), and return the registration form with payment at your earliest opportunity, however no later than Monday, September 30, to the address provided on the form.
If you have any dietary considerations – diabetic, low-sodium, vegetarian, etc. – please indicate so on the space provided on the Synod Registration Form.
Accommodations: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Spark Hotel by Hilton,
55 Whitehall Avenue, Mystic, for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, October 30 and 31, and November 1, at a group discount rate of $109.00 per night, plus 15% Connecticut Hotel Tax ($125.35 total per night). There is a choice of rooms with 1 king bed, or 2 queen beds.

If you need to cancel, individual cancellations will need to be made no later than 48 hours in advance of your arrival date without being responsible for the 1st night room charge.
Hotel incidentals: A complimentary breakfast/bagel bar is offered each morning, the breakfast room is located on the second floor. There are no coffee makers in individual rooms, however complimentary coffee, tea, and juice in available 24 hours in the breakfast room. Given those details, Synod attendees are encouraged to reserve your room early, and when reserving request a room on the second floor for convenience. An elevator is available for guest use. All rooms are non-smoking (CT State Law); pets are permitted, with a one-time, non-refundable fee of $50.00.
Other: If a bagel bar is not quite to your liking for breakfast, the Mystic Diner is located a half-mile south of the Spark, at 253 Greenmanville Avenue (open daily at 7:00 AM). We also will plan to have light breakfast fare available on Thursday morning (Clericus), and after the Synod Mass Friday morning, in the fellowship hall at Old Mystic UMC.
Over the years there have been several changes to hotel ownership in Mystic; suffice to say that the two establishments we have used in the past are no longer available. There are several other hotels available in Mystic and nearby Groton, however even at the end of October prices are still elevated, with some properties being about or more than double the price that I was able to get at Spark. Of course, Synod delegates are free to make reservations at any hotel that best suits them.
We of St. Matthias Anglican Church in Old Mystic welcome you, and we look forward to seeing many of our dear friends October 30 through November 2!
Yours in Christ’s service,
Ven. Merrill Perkins
The Venerable Merrill R. Perkins
Archdeacon, ACA-Diocese of the Northeast
Vicar, St. Matthias Anglican Church
