Summer NEA 2025

Updated: 2 days ago

My dear Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese of the Northeast,

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”  (Mt 28:19-20)

This is the command that our Lord Jesus has given to the Church.  Jesus has entrusted us with his message to the world.  We in the Diocese of the Northeast take this charge seriously.  We look at the world around us and bemoan the fact that there are so many who do not follow the wonderful words of love that he spoke to us and that he showed to us in his crucifixion and resurrection, forgiving us our sins and opening the way of salvation for all who would believe.

I announced at our last Diocesan Synod that one way that we as a Diocese are reaching into our world is through the starting of new missions in the Diocese.  Last fall, a mission was started in Massachusetts.  I know of three more missions starting in the next few months, two in Maine and one in New York City.  However, in order for the Diocese to be able to assist in the development of these missions, we are called upon to provide material resources.  Last autumn, the Diocese began THE LEGACY FUND as a means to provide ongoing monies for the starting of, and support to, missions in the Diocese, and for the development and support of clergy to lead our missions and parishes.  We announced our goal of raising Three Million Dollars, the interest of which will be used for this purpose.

The Diocese has contributed to this Fund by taking one-half of its savings and placing it into the fund.  To this date, six people have committed to offering a monthly contribution to the Fund.  Many others have written The Legacy Fund into their wills for distribution following their deaths.  We are asking each of you, the followers of Jesus Christ, to join us in this mission.  The more money that we can raise will mean that our outreach into our broken world may be strengthened and that ever more people may hear the Good News of God’s love for them.

The Diocese of the Northeast is making two requests of you.  First, we ask that you prayerfully commit to the ongoing support and building up of The Legacy Fund through your gifts and through adding us as a bequest.  Second, and more immediately, we are requesting that each parish in the Diocese hold, in its own way, a special       collection for the Legacy Fund on Sunday, June 8, the Feast of Pentecost.  Let us see if, on the day that the Holy Ghost descended upon the disciples, he might descend upon us in a special and       powerful manner!

Our world is hurting.  We, the People of the Cross, have the antidote for their illness.  Let us bring God’s love to this hurting world.  Let us share the power of the Holy Ghost to provide  healing and wholeness to those who are desperately in need of the Lord’s healing power.  Let us offer ourselves, all that we are, to bring Jesus into the neighborhoods of our Diocese.

Remember, our three year goal is Three Million Dollars.  Our offering on Pentecost will present the first marker toward that goal.  Let us make this the most memorable day in the history of the Diocese of the Northeast!

      With love, joy, and hopefulness,

 —————Your brother and Bishop
